About Us

Our Mission

Lakeside Hospice was founded with a simple mission: to provide outstanding hospice care to the residents of Canyon Lake and surrounding communities. We believe care should remain local—rooted in the relationships, values, and spirit of the community—while meeting the highest standards of quality in hospice care.

We are more than a service that manages pain or anxiety. We are here to walk alongside patients and families during life’s most difficult moments. Our role is to bring comfort, presence, and a steady hand—caring not only for physical needs, but for the emotional, spiritual, and relational needs that matter just as much.

At Lakeside, we help surround you and your loved one with a true community of support. We create space for meaningful connection—helping you remain close to the people you love, while we carry the burden of care.

And when a loved one passes, our care does not end. We remain with you—helping you grieve, helping you remember, and honoring the life that was lived. Because remembrance is part of healing, and no one should walk that path alone.

At Lakeside, you are not just a patient. You are family.

Our Vision

Lakeside Hospice envisions becoming a trusted, high-quality, and deeply respected hospice provider for the residents of Canyon Lake and surrounding communities. We strive for the name Lakeside to be synonymous with exceptional, compassionate care delivered in the comfort of home.
Our vision extends beyond the care we provide at the bedside. We are committed to building a culture where our team feels supported, valued, and inspired—where meaningful work leads to lasting careers, and where people choose to stay, grow, and serve together over time.

We also aspire to be a lasting presence within the Canyon Lake community—a source of strength, connection, and remembrance. Through our work, we hope not only to ensure access to excellent hospice care, but to help families honor and remember their loved ones, while encouraging a deeper appreciation for life, health, and the legacy we leave for future generations.

At Lakeside, our vision is simple: to care well, to serve faithfully, and to strengthen the community we are privileged to call home.

Core Values

At Lakeside Hospice, our values shape every interaction, every decision, and every moment of care. They define not only how we serve patients and families—but who we are as a team.

Compassionate Presence

We meet families with steadiness, empathy, and respect.
No one should feel alone during the final chapter of life.
We offer presence that is genuine, grounded, and deeply human.

Medical Excellence

Care is physician-led, clinically sound, and guided by strong medical judgment.
We uphold the highest standards to ensure comfort, dignity, and trust in every decision.

Clarity

We bring structure to uncertain moments.
We explain what to expect, guide decisions with honesty, and reduce confusion so families can focus on what matters most.

Disciplined Execution

Hospice care should be done well—and done reliably.
We follow through, respond promptly, and deliver on what we promise.
Consistency is not optional; it is essential.

Reliability

Families depend on us in moments that matter most.
We answer the phone. We show up.
Trust is built through responsiveness, availability, and clear communication.

Respect for Dignity

Every patient and every family is treated with dignity, regardless of background or belief.
We approach end-of-life care with humility, professionalism, and deep respect for each life.

Community Commitment

We are rooted in the Hill Country.
We build lasting relationships and serve with a long-term investment in the people and families around us.
We are neighbors—not a distant corporation.

Operational Integrity

Great care depends on strong systems.
We run our organization with discipline, accountability, and high standards—because families deserve care they can rely on.

Our Commitment To You

At Lakeside Hospice, our commitment is simple: to provide outstanding, compassionate hospice care to every patient and family we serve. We are committed to being there when you need us—day or night.
Care does not follow a schedule, and neither do we. We answer the phone. We show up. We are available 24/7.

We are committed to presence.
Not just in moments of ease, but especially when things are uncertain, heavy, or difficult. You will not walk this path alone.

We are committed to honoring life and remembrance.
We help families remember their loved ones, carry forward their stories, and find meaning in the legacy they leave behind.

We are committed to our community.
Beyond individual care, we seek to support Canyon Lake as a whole—fostering connection, remembrance, and shared strength among neighbors.

We are committed to recognizing and honoring our veterans.
We acknowledge their service, their sacrifice, and ensure they are cared for with the dignity and respect they have earned.

We are committed to building a healthier future.
By supporting families today and investing in the well-being of our community, we strive to help Canyon Lake remain a place where people can live fully, age with dignity, and where future generations can thrive.

At Lakeside, our commitment is not just to care—but to people, to community, and to the lives that shape it.

Medical Director / Founder

Dr. Landon Roussel, MD, ABIM, is the founder and Medical Director of Lakeside Hospice. A board-certified internist, Dr. Roussel brings over a decade of experience caring for homebound and hospice patients, with a particular focus on serving rural communities with both clinical excellence and innovation.

Dr. Roussel earned a dual degree in Spanish and Biochemistry from Rice University, followed by his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. He also holds a Master’s in Bioethics, completed through a collaborative European program involving the University of KU Leuven (Belgium), Radboud University (Netherlands), and the University of Padua (Italy). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine through Harvard Medical School at the Mount Auburn Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program.

In 2016, Dr. Roussel founded Communitas Primary Care, an innovative direct primary care practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the surrounding River Parishes region. Under his leadership, the practice grew into one of the largest providers of home-based medical care in the area. During this time, he personally conducted hundreds of home visits as both a primary care physician and hospice medical director, while also training nurse practitioners and leading care teams that included registered nurses providing chronic care management.

In 2022, Dr. Roussel moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, where he served as a full-time hospitalist with PeaceHealth at Ketchikan Medical Center. There, he became Medical Director of the island’s first and only hospice, guiding the program from pre-licensure through operational maturity. He was also elected Chief of Staff, serving from 2023 to 2025—an honor reflecting the trust and respect of his colleagues.

In 2025, Dr. Roussel relocated to Canyon Lake, Texas, to be closer to family. He continues to practice as a hospitalist within the CHRISTUS Health system, as well as at Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels.
Dr. Roussel’s approach to hospice care combines a deep commitment to clinical excellence with a belief that the best care—and the best organizations—are built on relationships, trust, and service to the local community.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys pickleball, hiking, swimming, and occasionally teaching fitness classes. Most importantly, he values time with his wife of 17 years, Amanda, their children Benedict and Jeanne-Marie, their Siberian Husky Anna, and their two cats, Brie and Blaize.”
